Back from Vegas

We are back, life started back in full force, this is my first "calm" time and it lasts for one hour before we are off to dinner with our usual Saturday gang.
Vegas was warm and fun. We had the best time at Bette Midler, she is a powerhouse of energy!! Great, Great songs and funny stage show!! Who knew you could do a dance routine in "old people's scooters"? The show was sold out and she is spending the month of February at home and Cher and Elton John fill in!! We've seen Elton John a few years ago actually with Billy Joel, that was a great concert also.
I managed to get to Nancy's Quilt Shop which was a $40 dollar cab ride each direction!!! But the shop gives a 20% discount to people who visit from the "strip" area, knowing that it's expensive to get there. So, that was more than fair. I got 2 more books and a couple of patterns. A very nice shop!!!
We had a few drinks, me I stuck to a good meal plan and splurged on the alcohol!! Didn't win any money, but I stood next to a couple that had just won $10,000 on a jumbo machine. We did get to sit (on the plane) next to the girl that sang the National Anthem at the Miss America Contest , so that was our "lady luck action". I made my pilgrimage to the lions at MGM, I've actually caused us to miss a plane with my need to see them each time!!

Nyquil Queen

Trying to head off a nasty cold, it started in my right ear last week, after a fishtank size Margarita I thought I cured it, but to no avail, it's in my throat now. We have to be on a plane tomorrow, don't want this nasty stuff flying!! But at least I probably will be the one with all the germs on the plane, I can give instead of the usual receive of a cold!!

Our man is in the White House!! He was a huge job ahead of him, I support him and wish him all the best. His girls were sooo cute yesterday and p0lite!! I loved Michelle's outfit!!! Very classy!!

Ricky Scaggs

We are fortunate enough to have an music venue that is small and intimate in Newberry. They draw great groups of music, all types. We have a friend that is very much into blue grass and on occasion he drags a group up to Newberry and we begrudgingly watch a band of his choosing. Last night we all shuffled up to Newberry in 30 degree weather and saw Ricky Scaggs. Who would have thought that we would enjoy it as much as we did? Ricky is looking a little haggard, like the rest of us, very pudgy and white/grey hair!! He can play, but a back up tenor/guitar player, Paul Brewster was better at singing! He had an awesome natural twang to his voices and sang my old Kentucky home that brought the crowd to their feet!!
Today we are off to Charleston to take Lili and Brilli out to lunch. No classes and no state government offices open, so Ken can't service his clients and their licenses. Me, I keep sticking to my salad and no wine, I should down about 15 lbs now, about 25 to go!!

how is it possible to be in the midst of global warming when we have this crazy cold going on everywhere??? Yesterday I drove to the rec center to walk, in 23 degrees! Wonder why the "always there" tennis players were missing?? Then went to a meeting in in room with "barely working" heat, came out from that and it was 29 degrees. People this is SC, we don't do cold!!! I haven't even gotten my winter clothes out of the attic yet!!

At least we aren't in Minnesota or Wisconsin or Caribou Maine!! We might get snow tomorrow they say. All the plants from the deck are in the kitchen to save them, had to run the outside faucet so the pipes don't freeze. All I have to say is next week when we are in Las Vegas it better be warm!! What's the five day forcast for Vegas?? Hope Bette Midler's voice is ok, since we are going to her show on Saturday, can you believe it??

Crawling out of the hole

I'm alive. Just busy. I owe you bunches of pics, I will get them to you. But I just got really inspired to sew. Hopefully today I can show you some real progress. Of course, I'm walking 3 miles a day on the days I don't go to the gym for an hour. Although yesterday I did both. I'm also doing the big ball exercises where you roll around and work your core!! My core is huge!!! Trying to lose 5 lbs before the 22nd!! That's when we leave for Vegas! Ken has a yearly thing there, I haven't been there in a while and I now know where the quilt shops are!! The best part is we're going to see Bette Midler! HOLY COW, right!!??? I've been up since 4:35 a.m. quilting ideas swimming in my head, It's 5:50 now and I've already gone through all my picasa pictures (the quilt folder 475 pics) Ideas to stimulate me galore!! This could be a two coffee morning, my version, decaf, splenda, and soy milk. Not so bad, actually!!
